About Sam

Samantha was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and was raised by a Californian father and a hippie Australian mother who homeschooled her and raised her to believe that she could do anything she put her mind to.

She fell in love with art as a teenager while taking art classes. Being a favorite of her Art teacher’s, she always received books on art history and art techniques to study. This inspired her to pursue an art education through Milan Art Institute because of the school’s counter-culture attitude around art and art education that fit in well with Samantha’s own beliefs around art. After living all over the country for the past 13 years, she has returned to her roots in Des Moines where she paints stylized oil paintings in her home studio.

Samantha’s process usually starts with texture on the canvas and a drippy mess in mixed media, where she can be bold and have fun. She then refines and finished in oils, which bring that rich, juicy color to her art. Within her work, Samantha creates a sense of breaking free and paving your own path. When she isn’t painting, you can almost always find her with a book in hand, getting inspiration from what she is reading, whether that be a fantasy novel or a book on spirituality.

She is a rebel at heart and she believes that everyone has the potential to overcome and be their highest selves. She does this through her use of bold colors, and imagery of transformation and empowerment. Her artwork inspires you to chase your dreams and not let societal or cultural norms and expectations hold you back from what you really want. She is currently dreaming up her next series that will have a focus on the strength of women, expanding her art into figurative work.
